Potential of plants-based alkaloids, terpenoids and flavonoids as antibacterial agents: An update
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major public health concern, with phytochemicals like flavonoids, terpenoids, and alkaloids being potential alternatives. These natural chemicals can suppress bacterial growth and enhance antibiotic efficiency. However, there is a gap in understanding their therapeutic potential. Novel research approaches are needed to explore phytochemicals’ antibacterial capabilities and synergistic effects with conventional antibiotics, ultimately improving public health outcomes.
